In a historic district
If your home is a landmark or sits in one of Santa Monica's historic districts, exterior lighting can need a Certificate of Appropriateness from the Landmarks Commission. Check with the City's Planning Division before you schedule an install. We'll provide the mounting location, the track color and the layout for your application.
Bungalows, courtyards and modern boxes
- Craftsman bungalows: exposed rafter tails are part of the look. We plan the run so it doesn't cover them.
- Spanish Colonial Revival: clay tile, stucco and often shallow eaves. The attachment follows the stucco or fascia line, not the tile.
- Flat-roofed modern homes: a parapet edge replaces the usual fascia, which changes how and where the track mounts.
More on attachment: how mounting works on tile, stucco and gutters.
