The harbor
Marina del Rey is unincorporated Los Angeles County land. The county owns the harbor, the Department of Beaches and Harbors manages it, and most parcels are leased to private operators. The harbor has roughly 4,600 to 5,000 boat slips. The county's Holiday Boat Parade reached its 63rd year in 2025 and added a drone show.
Who approves exterior changes
Because so much of the marina is leasehold, condo and apartment, the person who approves exterior lighting is often a landlord, a lessee or an HOA board, not the resident. Find out who that is before planning anything.
