Santa Monica's shopping streets
The Third Street Promenade, Main Street and Montana Avenue each have their own character. The Promenade is pedestrian-only, Main Street has older storefronts near the beach, and Montana Avenue is the shopping street along the edge of the North of Montana neighborhood. A lighting plan should match the street as well as the building.
Approvals
If a building is a designated landmark or in a historic district, exterior changes can need Landmarks Commission review. Everywhere else, start with the landlord or property manager. We'll document the scope for whoever approves it.
