JellyFish vs Govee permanent lights: an installer's honest comparison

Both systems light a roofline, but they are sold, mounted and backed very differently. Here is what each manufacturer publishes, side by side, with every figure linked and dated.

Who wrote this comparison?

Most JellyFish vs Govee comparisons online are written by a brand's dealer or by a rival brand. This one is written by an installer that works with both, so the goal is simple: help you pick the right one for your house.

Every figure below comes from the manufacturer's own website, checked on October 21, 2026. Where a manufacturer doesn't publish something, we say so instead of guessing. Prices and terms change, so follow the links before you decide.

How are JellyFish and Govee lights sold?

JellyFish: built to be professionally installed

JellyFish runs its own installation teams in some markets and an Authorized Dealer program everywhere else. Its dealer page (opens in a new tab) describes dealer pricing, training and support for approved dealers. Its locations page (opens in a new tab) lists Fresno, Clovis and Visalia and asks you to fill out a form to be contacted by the closest location.

JellyFish also has a Do-It-Yourself program (opens in a new tab) with an installation guide and kit ordering.

Govee: built to be a DIY kit

Govee sells its permanent outdoor lights as boxed kits on its online store (opens in a new tab) and through retailers. Its 2 Pro product page says the lights are “Designed for flexible DIY installation.”

We found no Govee installer or dealer program. Govee offers a B2B program (opens in a new tab) for business pricing, but it does not certify installers. That means anyone who installs Govee for you, including us, is an independent installer.

How does each system mount to the house?

Mounting is where the two systems differ most, and it decides how the lights look in daylight.

  • JellyFish mounts in a track that runs along the roofline. Its homepage describes “track that's color matched to your home,” so the run blends in by day. Its Built to Last page (opens in a new tab) lists a 48-volt system and 6, 9 and 16 inch light spacing.
  • Govee mounts each light with clips. Govee's installation guide (opens in a new tab) says to fasten each light with screw clips, place clips every 12 to 18 inches, and use the included adhesive pads.

With clip-mounted lights, the finished look depends heavily on the person doing the work: straight lines, hidden wire runs and where the control box sits. Whoever installs your system, ask exactly how they will mount it and route the wires. Our mounting guide covers tile, stucco, gutters and two-story homes.

Which app and smart-home controls does each use?

Both systems run from a phone app with colors, patterns, zones and schedules. The differences are in the ecosystem.

  • JellyFish says its app and controller are designed and built in-house in the USA. Its homepage lists control of each light, zoning, schedules, custom patterns and presets, and it names Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Control4 and Nice-Elan as compatible.
  • Govee's 2 Pro page lists app and voice control over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, with Google Assistant, Alexa and Matter support. If your home already runs on Matter, that is a real point in Govee's favor.

Either way, the controller needs a solid Wi-Fi signal where it's mounted. Govee's guide suggests keeping the router within 30 feet of the control box. Check signal at your garage or eave before install day.

What warranty does each manufacturer publish?

  • JellyFish: its Plano, Texas location page (opens in a new tab) states “We include a five year warranty on parts and one year of labor,” as published on October 21, 2026. That page describes a JellyFish-installed system. We could not find JellyFish's full warranty document or its terms for systems installed by someone outside its network.
  • Govee: its collection page (opens in a new tab) says its permanent outdoor lights “come with a 3-year warranty,” as published on October 21, 2026. We could not find the full terms for these products.

Workmanship on the install itself is a separate warranty that comes from whoever installs it. Our warranty guide explains the difference and what to ask.

How much do JellyFish and Govee cost?

The two brands publish price figures in different ways, so they don't line up neatly.

  • JellyFish says in its cost blog (opens in a new tab), checked October 21, 2026, that costs “range from $25 to $35 per linear foot installed,” that most homeowners spend between $3,000 and $6,000, and that the average is around $4,600. It lists additional controllers at $650 to $850 and says one controller can power 263 feet.
  • Govee listed four permanent outdoor light kits on its store (opens in a new tab) on October 21, 2026: Permanent Outdoor Lights 2 at $279.99, Pro at $759.99, 2 Pro at $799.99 and Prism at $859.99. Those are hardware prices only. Installation, if you hire it, is extra.

Your real number depends on your roofline length, the number of stories, corners and peaks, and where power is. For how we price a job, see our pricing page.

Which one is right for your home?

JellyFish tends to fit if you:

  • Want a track-mounted system designed to blend into the roofline by day
  • Want the longer published parts warranty and are willing to confirm terms with JellyFish
  • Use Control4 or Nice-Elan in your smart home
  • Are comfortable with JellyFish's published installed range of $25 to $35 per foot

Govee tends to fit if you:

  • Want a lower hardware cost and a shorter run, such as one face of a single-story home
  • Run a Matter smart home, or already use Govee lights indoors
  • Are fine with a clip-mounted install and Govee's published 3-year warranty

Questions

Is JellyFish better than Govee?

Neither is better for every house. JellyFish is a track-mounted, professionally installed system with a longer published parts warranty and a higher published price. Govee is a lower-cost DIY kit with clip mounting and Matter support. The right pick depends on your roofline, budget and smart-home setup.

Will the manufacturer warranty cover my lights if an independent installer puts them in?

That is up to the manufacturer and its terms. Confirm coverage for third-party installs directly with JellyFish or Govee before you buy.

Can I install Govee permanent lights myself?

Govee designs its kits for DIY installation and publishes an installation guide. The work is on a ladder at the roof edge, so weigh the height of your house and your comfort with ladder work.
