The Swedish Village
The Kingsburg Swedish Festival dates to 1924 and is held on the third weekend of May. The water tower was built in 1911 as a plain tower and remodeled into a 122-foot Swedish coffee pot in 1985. Downtown, Dala horses decorate benches, lamps and planters.
Downtown design guidelines
Kingsburg's zoning code (Chapter 17.80) asks downtown property owners to make a good-faith effort to follow the Swedish Village Design Standards and Guidelines. The area covered is the triangle bounded by Highway 99, 18th Avenue and Sierra Street. The guidelines favor wood exteriors and encourage half-timbering, flower boxes and mullioned windows. Lighting downtown should work with those details.
