What permanent roofline lighting is

Permanent roofline lighting is a row of LED lights mounted along the fascia, the board that runs under the edge of your roof. On a pro system the lights sit in a low-profile track or channel matched to your trim, so from the street it reads as part of the house during the day. At night, it’s whatever you want it to be.

You’ll also hear it called permanent Christmas lights or permanent holiday lights. Same idea: the lights stay up all year, so there’s no ladder in November and no tangled strands in January. Colors, scenes, brightness and schedules all run from an app.

  • No yearly hanging or takedown. It goes up once.
  • Low-profile by day. Built to blend into the roofline, not hang off it.
  • Your phone is the switch. Change the look in seconds, or set it and forget it.
  • Zones. Depending on the system and layout, the front, sides and back can run different looks.

Lights that work the night shift.

Everyday warm white, holidays and game days

Everyday

Most nights, most owners run a soft warm white. It outlines the house, lights the walk to the door and makes the place look finished after dark. Set it to come on at dusk and turn off at bedtime.

Holidays

Christmas is the obvious one. But the same lights do orange and purple for Halloween, red, white and blue for the Fourth, and pink for Valentine’s Day. Pick a preset or build your own, then schedule it ahead so it switches on its own.

Game days and special nights

Bulldog red and blue on a Saturday. School colors for a graduation party. A birthday color for the kids. Brightness is adjustable, so you can keep it neighbor-friendly.

Roof types, home styles and HOAs

From Fig Garden ranch homes to two-story builds in north Fresno, rooflines change block to block. That’s why every quote starts with a measure of your actual house.

  • Single-story homes: long, simple runs. Usually the most straightforward install.
  • Two-story homes: more height means more equipment and more care. Access is one of the things that affects price.
  • Concrete tile roofs: common across north Fresno and Clovis. Mounting runs along the fascia below the tile, not on the tiles.
  • Stucco: some eaves are wrapped in stucco instead of a wood fascia board. The attachment method changes, and we’ll walk you through it for your home.
  • Gutters: gutters change where the lights can sit. We’ll show you the options for your roofline during the measure.

For the details, see how mounting works on tile, stucco and gutters.

HOA neighborhoods

Many newer neighborhoods in Clovis and north Fresno have HOAs, and rules vary. Check your CC&Rs or architectural guidelines before you book. Some HOAs want an application for exterior changes. A system that disappears into the trim by day is often easier to fit within those guidelines than strings and clips. We can give you product details and a description of the planned install to send with your application.

Built for Valley summers

Fresno summers routinely run past 100°F, with months of hard sun. Down here, heat and UV wear on outdoor lighting more than rain or cold ever will.

Both systems we install are made for outdoor, year-round use. JellyFish lists an IP67 rating for its system. Govee lists IP68 for its permanent light strings and IP67 for the control box. Those ratings cover water and dust. For heat, look at each manufacturer’s operating range and warranty terms.

Placement matters too. We plan where the controller and wire runs go with you during the measure. Want the full picture? Read what IP ratings and heat specs mean in the Central Valley.

What drives the price

Every home is measured and quoted on its own. These are the things that move the number:

  • Linear feet. The total length of roofline you want lit is the biggest factor.
  • Stories and access. Second stories, steep pitches and tight side yards take more equipment and time.
  • Corners, peaks and gables. Every turn in the roofline adds cuts, connections and labor.
  • Zones and controllers. Long or split rooflines can need more than one controller or power supply.
  • System choice. JellyFish and Govee sit at different price points.

For a sense of the national market, JellyFish’s own cost guide cites roughly $25–$35 per linear foot installed. That’s the manufacturer’s figure, not our price. Your written quote has your real number.

How power is handled

A permanent lighting system runs through a controller and power supply that plug into an exterior outlet, often near the garage. The lights are LED, so they draw far less than old incandescent strands.

Outdoor outlets should be GFCI-protected and have a weather cover. If there’s no outlet in a workable spot, or a circuit needs work, that’s a job for a licensed electrician. We’ll flag it during the measure so it isn’t a surprise on install day.

Common questions

How much do permanent Christmas lights cost in Fresno?

It depends on your home. Linear feet of roofline, the number of stories, corners and peaks, how many zones or controllers you need, and whether you choose JellyFish or Govee all change the price. We measure your roofline for free and give you a written quote with your exact number.

Can you see permanent lights during the day?

Not much. A pro system sits in a low-profile track along the fascia, matched to your trim, so it reads as part of the roofline. Most people walking by won’t notice it until the lights come on.

Will the install damage my roof or fascia?

The lights mount along the fascia, not on the roof covering itself. Tile, stucco and gutters each call for a different approach, and we explain exactly how we’ll attach on your home during the measure, before you sign anything.

Should I choose JellyFish or Govee?

JellyFish is the premium, pro-installed system with a color-matched track. Govee is the smart-value option, professionally mounted, at a lower total cost. Both are app-controlled and do warm white and full color. We’ll recommend one after we see your roofline and hear how you want to use it.

Do permanent holiday lights hold up in Fresno heat?

Both systems we install are designed for year-round outdoor use and carry manufacturer weather ratings. Heat and sun are the main stressors in the Valley, so we plan controller and wire placement with that in mind. Our Fresno heat and UV guide explains what the ratings mean.

Will permanent lights raise my electric bill?

LED roofline lights draw little power, especially at the brightness most people use every night. Your cost depends on how many feet you light, how bright, how many hours, and your PG&E rate. Our electricity cost guide walks through the math.

What warranty comes with the system?

There are two layers. The lights and controller carry the manufacturer’s product warranty, under JellyFish’s or Govee’s own terms. Our workmanship warranty covers the install itself, and your written quote spells out exactly what it covers.

Do I need an electrician?

Often not. The controller plugs into an exterior outlet, ideally a GFCI-protected one with a weather cover. If your home needs a new outlet or circuit, that work should be done by a licensed electrician, and we’ll tell you during the measure if that applies.
